Trapped by Prestige: Girl Commits Fraud to Get an iPhone 16


A recent viral news story reported by Garuda TV tells of a young girl who went as far as committing fraud just to obtain the latest iPhone 16. This incident highlights a growing concern in today’s society—how social media and consumerist culture are shaping the mindset of the younger generation. The pressure to keep up appearances, gain online approval, and own luxury items is pushing some individuals to take unethical and illegal actions. For many youths, self-worth is now being measured by material possessions rather than character or accomplishments. This trend is alarming and points to a deeper issue: the weakening of moral education and critical thinking, both of which are essential in an age dominated by digital influence.


From my perspective, this behavior is completely unacceptable and must not be normalized, regardless of the motivation behind it. It’s crucial for families, educators, and society at large to reintroduce strong core values such as honesty, humility, and responsibility. Digital literacy should also be emphasized so that young people learn to navigate the online world with discernment and not fall into the trap of chasing shallow validation. Social media platforms should play a role too, by promoting healthier content and discouraging unrealistic lifestyles. If we fail to address this issue seriously, we risk raising a generation more focused on appearances than ethics—a future that could be deeply damaging to both individuals and society.
